Maastricht Visitor Information
VisitorInfoPageMainContent

An intriguing mélange of medieval walls, squares, churches, and contemporary architecture, Maastricht traces its roots back to a Roman settlement founded here in 50 B.C. to protect a strategic bridge across the Maas River.

Today Maastricht is one of the most vibrant cities in the Netherlands. The five languages spoken here, Limburgish, Dutch, German, French and English, commingle and create a cosmopolitan backdrop to the shifting carnival of people. Residents and visitors alike enjoy Maastricht’s signature outdoor cafes, gourmet and international restaurants, waterfront activities, and festivals celebrating the arts and cultural diversity.
